Reflexology is based on the theory that all the systems and organs of the body are mirrored or reflected in smaller peripheral areas, for example the feet and hands. With a firm but gentle pressure I will work on these reflexes, aiming to help your body restore its balance naturally.
Reflexology is a non-invasive complementary therapy suitable for all ages, from newborn babies to those receiving end of life care and everyone in between. While it can be used safely alongside standard healthcare to promote better health for clients there may occasionally be times when it is not suitable to provide a treatment. Get in touch for more information. Please note: reflexology should not be used as an alternative to seeking medical advice
The benefits can include:
With ever increasing levels of stress in everyday life, it is important for us to take responsibility for our own healthcare needs; Reflexology may be one of the ways to help mitigate the stresses of modern life, bringing the body to a state of balance and improving overall health.
Some areas reflexology can support include:
I do not claim to cure, diagnose or prescribe. Reflexology is a very individual treatment which is tailored to you as a whole person, taking into account both physical and non-physical factors that might be affecting your wellbeing. Some people find it works for them – some don’t. The best way to find out is to try it!
I will complete a full consultation with you via telephone prior to your treatment and I’ll ask you to sign a consent form for treatment when we meet. This information will be kept confidential. Reflexology is a very easy therapy to receive; the most clothing you will have to remove will be your socks and shoes. You will relax in my comfortable reclining chair with a warm blanket and eye pillow if you wish, where depending on the type of reflexology chosen, I will clean your hands or feet with a warm scented towel before completing a soothing warm up massage, followed by applying specific pressure on the various reflexes. You may feel areas of tenderness during the treatment if a reflex is out of balance, this will only last a short time as I work through it, but I can move on and return to the area later on in the treatment if required, so your experience remains relaxing.
Each reaction is as individual as the client. After just one treatment you may find your tension is reduced and you are really relaxed. You may feel really invigorated and full of energy. One of my clients described feeling as though they could fall into a deep sleep and lift a car at the same time after a treatment!
After a couple of treatments your body may respond in a very noticeable way. Most people note a sense of well-being and relaxation; However, sometimes people report feeling lethargic, nauseous or tearful. This is usually transitory and we believe that it is part of the healing process that will pass. It’s important to drink lots of water and try to take time to rest after your treatment and let your body continue to heal itself. Regular sessions will multiply the beneficial effects of reflexology and you can have treatments as often as you want.
It is really useful to get your feedback as this may show the response of your body to treatment which will help me tailor a treatment plan specific to your needs.
I’ll be using a therapeutic pressure which shouldn’t feel ticklish and which I can adapt to your comfort at all times. If you don’t like having your feet touched because of the way you feel about them, rest assured I won’t see them in the same way you do; I’ve seen a lot of feet and they are as unique as the people they belong to. But if you do feel really uncomfortable having your feet touched, I can adapt the routine to work on your hands.
I use reflexology wax made from 100% natural ingredients blended with essential oils to suit the client. Unscented and vegan options are also available. Please let me know of any allergies you may have prior to treatment.
